"Green Lantern" Cruises to Box Office Glory

Beating out the competition with ease, "Green Lantern" cruised to a first place finish at the box office on Father's Day weekend (June 17-19).
The Ryan Reynolds/Blake Lively spearheaded comic book-based film directed by Martin Campbell raked in $21.6 million on opening day en route to a projected weekend take of $51 million.

Coming in at a distant second was JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg's Sci-Fi/Thriller "Super 8" - as the Elle Fanning and Kyle Richards starring film earned an estimated $20.5 million during its second week of release.
Rounding out the top five at the box office were Jim Carrey's family flick "Mr. Popper's Penguins" ($18 million), followed by "X-Men: First Class" ($11.5 million) and "The Hangover Part II" ($10 million).
